The festival celebrates Madisonville's well-earned title as the "Mushroom Capital of Texas" ๐, a designation that comes courtesy of the impressive Monterey Mushrooms facility that calls this town home. This agricultural powerhouse produces an astounding 600,000 pounds of fresh mushrooms every single week, making it a cornerstone of both the local economy and the broader Texas agricultural landscape.

The visionary leader who purchased Monterey Mushrooms in 1988 and transformed it into North America's largest mushroom producer. This Persian immigrant came to the U.S. as a teenager and worked his way up from farm general manager to company owner. Shah is renowned for popularizing portabella mushrooms and has awarded over $2.7 million in scholarships to children of Monterey Mushrooms employees.
